Couples come to us when they need help to move forwards. Lack of connection, differences in values, needs being unmet, conflict poorly handled, issues with dependents, lack of trust, problems with finances, infidelity - there are many reasons why seeing a specialised, expert counsellor, can help you and your partner deal with issues that have come to overwhelm your relationship. Sometimes being in a space with a trained helper to lead you through the issues you are facing, can be both productive and clarifying.

This is a difficult question. The truth is, it depends on how invested both people are in both the counselling, and the relationship. For some, success is deeper reconnection, better communication, and forgiveness to move forwards together. For others, success is navigating with care and respect, the end of a relationship - especially when children are involved.

We both use a range of relationship therapy modalities including: Imago Therapy, Emotional Focused Therapy, the Gottman Method and more. We will work with you to find a therapy style that suits your relationship and feels comfortable to you. We may explore; what a healthy and balanced relationship means to you, how you communicate, how to navigate conflict, love languages and attachment styles. You will learn how to speak from the ‘I’ point of view, without accusing or jabbing, to cool down the heat and hurt, and bring greater self-awareness. Couples often find they need to work on themselves as an individuals, learning how to each grow as individual people to then positively impact the relationship.

Email us or give us a call. When we have an email address for each person in the relationship, we will send out an initial questionnaire and risk assessment. When we have received these, we will make arrangements for an initial call (15mins) with each person, to clarify the presenting issues. Following this, if there is availability and we mutually think we could work effectively together with you, an appointment would be arranged.

All marriage and couples therapists will have different terms and conditions for how they want to work. At Shared Space, we believe in transparency - unless there is a safeguarding risk - between both parties. You can find out more about how therapy will work and our ethical boundaries, by clicking on the link below. This will take you to our T&Cs, and are worth reading before therapy starts so you know the boundaries within which we are working.
